Open Question: Question about ANTS - what are they doing?

There are some ants on my living room floor - had a problem with them for a few days.

But anyway, just before, I noticed one or two ants looking at a small dark thing on the floor.
I layed down to look at them closely, and there is an injured/dead ant on the floor - they circled it a lot of times, and sort of examined it again and again, passing things (or words) to one another.

What are they trying to do? Are they mourning a friend or are they trying to heal it?

I don't think they're trying to eat it.

It has been about 15-20 minutes and they are still doing the same sort of thing.
