Open Question: CALCULUS: population growth/decay?

Let,
present population = x

After time, t years it is = 3x, then,

3x = x(1 +2.5/100)^t = x(1.025)^t

(1.025)^t = 3

Taking log both sides, we get,

t = log(3) / log(1.025) = 0.477 / 0.0107

t = 44.492 years >======================< ANSWR

taylor-alaine by taylor-a... Member since:April 27, 2009Total points:969 (Level 2)If you have a graphing calculator, plug the equation into the y=.
Expand your window so that you can see the population (probably the y axis) untill you can see 1000. Some cushion would be helpful so make the window a little bigger.
Plug 1000 into the y= also and find where the line intersects your function.
(If you didn't know, the e is above the divide symbol on the calculator.)
I hope this helps.
