Open Question: What is the difference between cereal and grain?
"Cereals, grains, or cereal grains are grasses (members of the monocot families Poaceae or Gramineae) cultivated for the edible components of their fruit seeds (botanically, a type of fruit called a caryopsis): the endosperm, germ, and bran."
"Pseudocereals are broadleaf plants (non-grasses) that are used in much the same way as cereals (true cereals are grasses). Their seed can be ground into flour and otherwise used as cereals. Examples of pseudocereals are amaranth, Love-lies-bleeding, red amaranth, Prince-of-Wales-feather; quinoa, and buckwheat.[1]"
"Pulses
Members of the (pea family). Pulses have higher protein than most other plant foods. They may also contain starch or oil. Most widely grown include:
soybean common bean chickpea lima bean runner bean pigeon pea lentil field pea or garden pea lupin"
"Oilseeds
Grains grown primarily for the extraction of their edible oil. Vegetable oils provide dietary energy and some essential fatty acids. They can be used as fuel or lubricants."
