Open Question: How to solve for a quadrilateral with successive side lengths?

7:25 Publicado por Flechado16

I've been looking at this for hours and for the life of me still don't understand how to do it.

Egyptian scrolls dating from the period between 1850 and 1650 B.C.E. show many formulas for computing land areas for the purposes of taxation. Does the following formula produce the correct area for a quadrilateral with successive side lengths of a, b, c, and d? If not, is the result too large or too small? Explain your result.

Area = [(a+c) x (b+d)] / 4

Thanks for the help!
