My biology teacher briefly mentioned mentioned the salinity of Australia's water makes it one of the few places you can find these "rocks" that surface and form...pillar looking rocks. I'm not sure what to look for, but he said these "rocks" are made of bacteria and some of the oldest bacteria known?

This is driving me crazy. A link to a legitimate site would be awesome too.
