Open Question: An artillery crew wants to shell a position on level ground 34 km away.?

It depends on whether you are taking air resistance (drag) and wind into account.

Most physics problems don't, so you get a perfect parabolic trajectory.

Range = v(init)^2 * sin ? / g^2

34 km = (790 m/s)^2 * sin ? / (9.8 m/s^2)

A real artillery crew must take air resistance (including wind) into account.
That means that you don't have a symmetric parabola
