Open Question: Why does the Earth have lava?

The earth has lava because that's what magma becomes when it is erupted onto the surface.

Now, if you're asking why the earth has *magma* below the surface... it's largely due to pressure. Depth = high pressure. High pressure = high temperature. High temperature means things melt. Hence, the magma.
