= (x + 3)^2 + (c - 9)

What do you mean "solve"? Do you want the roots?
(x + 3)^2 + (c - 9) = 0
(x + 3)^2 = 9 - c
x + 3 = +/- sqrt(9 - c)
x = -3 +/- sqrt(9 - c)
