Open Question: Should I pursue majoring in civil engineering? Please answer?

The concept of it interests me, infrastructure and the like has always interested me. However the part that worries me is the math. I'm not terrible at math, never made less than a B but I am not great at it either where it all comes natural. With math, it usually takes me a bit of extra time to understand it and then I understand it. Algebra 1 and 2 i made about high B's. Adv. functions and modeling which had trig/algebra I made about a 98. When I have a calculator I usually do great.

So overall, I am worried about calculus and all of the other tough maths and I did not take pre-cal. As mentioned, I like the concept of building and helping shape urban environments it is just math I worry about failing. What do you think?

Open Question: Easy problems related to Newton's Laws, Help please!!!!?

Open Question: Easy problems related to Newton's Laws, Help please!!!!?

Suppose you are standing in the aisle of a bus that travels along a straight road at 100 km/ hr. If you hold a pencil still above your head. Then relative to the bus, the velocity of the pencil is 0 km/ hr, and relative to the road, the pencil has a horizontal velocity of:
a) less than 100 km/ hr
b) 100 km/ hr
c) more than 100 km/ hr

Suppose you release the pencil. While it is dropping, and relative to the road, the pencil still has a horizontal velocity of:
a) less than 100 km/ hr
b) 100 km/ hr
c) more than 100 km/ hr

This means that the pencil will strike the floor at a place directly:
a) behind you
b) at your feel below your hand
c) in front of you

Relative to you, the way the pencil drops
a) is the same as if the bus were at rest
b) depends on the velocity of the bus

Open Question: Find the partial fraction decomposition: (x+3)/(2x^3+9x^2+13x+6) (Please show your work)?

Open Question: Find the partial fraction decomposition: (x+3)/(2x^3+9x^2+13x+6) (Please show your work)?

Well, first things first...we need to factor that denominator...otherwise this is a nightmare...

Using long division, I get (x+1)(2x^2 + 7x - 6)

Now I can do something with that....

(x+3)/(2x^3+9x^2+13x+6) = A/(x+1) + (Bx+C)/(2x^2 + 7x - 6)

Multiply thru by the denominator on both sides....

2Ax^2 + 7Ax - 6A + (Bx+C)(x+1 ) = x + 3
2Ax^2 = 7Ax - 6A + Bx^2 + Bx + Cx + C = x + 3

Now we equate like terms.... So,

2Ax^2 + Bx^2 = 0 -> 2A + B = 0

Bx + Cx + 7Ax = x -> B + C + 7A = 1

And, -6A + C = 3

So, B = -2A and C = 3 + 6A

So, (-2A) + (3 + 6A) + 7A = 1 -> 11A = -2 -> A = -2/11

So, B = -2A = -2(-2/11) = 4/11

And C = 3 + 6A = 3 + 6(-2/11) = 21/11

So, (x+3)/(2x^3+9x^2+13x+6) = (-2/11)/(x+1) + ((4/11)x + (21/11))/(2x^2 + 7x - 6)

Hope that all makes sense to ya....
