Open Question: how does gene therapy differ from other forms of medical treatment?
Most current medical treatments that are in general practice and are no longer in the research/development phase do no involve actually changing the DNA or genome of a person. Gene therapy involves actually altering the genotype of an individual by manipulating his or her DNA. Most other forms of medical treatment involve treating symptoms or curing a disease by means other than genetic manipulation.
Hope that helps :)
